KING WILLIAM ROAD
In 2019, King William Road underwent a significant transformation that has created a vibrant, unique and inviting destination that appeals day and night to shoppers, traders, residents and visitors alike. The upgrade was triggered by a need to replace the road which was an opportunity to work with the community to reimagine the precinct. The transformation delivered a new paved roadway, the addition of more greenery including 80 trees, dedicated pedestrian crossing points and new flexible spaces that can be used for on-street parking or outdoor dining and enable the precinct to adapt and change into the future.
Whilst we visit King William Road you will hear about the development design and construction from:
Jared Wilson - Landscape Architect, City of Unley – Worked closely with the design and construction teams as well as community stakeholders
Akarra Klingberg – Coordinator Business and Economic Development, City of Unley – Worked with the KWR business community and stakeholder engagement
GAWLER PLACE
Also recently completed is the Gawler Place upgrade that has transformed one of the busiest connecting streets into Rundle Mall. The result is a people focussed street with wider footpaths and new road surfaces that create a low-speed shared use environment for vehicles, bicycles and pedestrians. Improved lighting, an innovative shade structure in Gawler Place north and large trees and understorey plants create an attractive and shady space. The redesign has increased the opportunity for outdoor dining and several public art experiences are included as inspiring meeting points.
We will gain a better insight into the Gawler Place upgrade from:
Stuart Pope - Principal Landscape Architect, City of Adelaide
Carina Green - Senior Landscape Architect at City of Adelaide
QUEEN STREET
Iconic Queen / Elizabeth Streets tucked in just off Port Road in Croydon is a community of eclectic boutique stores, cafes, businesses and historic homes surrounded by fabulous street art.
In Queen & Elizabeth Streets there is a strong feeling of community with its eclectic mix of shops, cafes and other businesses, thrown together with a splash of colour in some of the street art portrayed. Here is an opportunity to learn from a street that does business and community collaboration extremely well - whether it is streetscape improvements and art installations, marketing initiatives or events including the Queen Street Music Festival.
Hear about all the great initiatives taking place in Queen Street, and the environment that makes it possible, from:
Navian Iseut - Place Leader, City of Charles Sturt
The rescheduled itinerary will be released shortly.
