Emma Grivell
Chair
Emma Grivell is a proud Mainstreeter and is currently the Business Engagement Advisor at the City of Charles Sturt. She was previously involved with the creation of the Prospect Road main street marketing and trader committee, securing two People’s Choice Mainstreet SA Awards in 2019 and 2020 and the Mainstreet Marketing Award in 2018.
Akarra Klingberg
Deputy Chair
Akarra is passionate about mainstreets and their contribution to the economic prosperity of local areas. Having worked across four mainstreets in the City of Unley, as the Jetty Road Development Coordinator at the City of Holdfast Bay, she is now the Senior Economic Development Officer at the City of Prospect. With a background in the tourism industry before making the move to Local Government, Akarra is dedicated to working with businesses to help them set up and flourish, making the most of the opportunities available. Working closely with the business community on economic development initiatives, she is also passionate about partnering with mainstreet committees and seeing their ideas come to life and precincts prosper.
Robert Bria
Robert joined the Norwood Payneham & St Peters Council in 1997 as a Councillor and has served as Mayor since October 2005. Robert is passionate about supporting local traders and local jobs, and has initiated several economic development projects initiatives. In 2015, he was nationally recognised for his work by Economic Development Australia (EDA) in the Elected Member category. This year Robert obtained accreditation from EDA as an Australian Certified Economic Developer. Robert holds a Graduate Certificate in Public Sector Management and Bachelor of Arts (1st Class Honours) Degree from Flinders University, and a Diploma of Government.
Amanda Russell
Committee Member
As a creative and resourceful leader, Amanda is passionate about supporting and strengthening our local community by creating meaningful connections and providing opportunities for growth. Amanda is the State Representative SA/NT at the Family Business Association, a peak body dedicated to providing business owners guidance through the succession planning process and previously assisted the ADCSA team develop a more diverse membership community. Amanda is enthusiastic about Mainstreet SA’s vision to celebrate, strengthen and support main street makers in both metro and regional locations considering they play such a vital part in attracting tourism and strengthening our economic, social, and cultural landscape. Amanda has a strong background in team leadership, resource management, process optimisation, and operational excellence, having successfully led teams in sales and operations across a variety of sectors. Amanda brings a diverse skill set and a wealth of knowledge to Main Street SA having experience that includes membership relations, event management, education programs and business franchising. Amanda also has an Advanced Diploma in Tourism Management, alongside qualifications in Business Management, Frontline Management and currently studying Mental Health. Outside of work, Amanda is an avid traveller with a deep interest in history, culture, and heritage around town centres.
Guinevere Flavel
Committee Member
Guinevere is a planning, urban design and engagement practitioner, with qualifications in both planning and design, and over 16 years' experience working within the built environment sector.
Guinevere is currently the Principal Engagement Advisor on the Northern Water Project.
Guinevere has extensive experience working on a variety of urban realm improvement projects, many with a mainstreet activation component. Most recently leading the engagement campaign for the Urban Design Strategy on the Torrens to Darlington Project, which sort to ensure the Project was designed to create connected communities and improve streetscapes within the Project area.
Guinevere is passionate about the role meaningful engagement has in improving project, design and community outcomes, which translates to creating great places for people.
Elizabeth Rushbrook
Committee Member
Elizabeth lives in Adelaide, just off a main street, and is a committee member of both a local residents’ group (SECRA) and its peak body, Community Alliance of SA (CASA). From this group emerged Save Our Historic Main Streets Inc. Following the local-to-state journey again, Elizabeth sees that Mainstreet SA champions a community‑driven network dedicated to strengthening local connections, empowering small businesses, and promoting vibrant places where people feel they belong.
Elizabeth has worked in the public service, both in local and state government, and in her final position supported national reform in early childhood development and education, leveraging her skills and experience.
Since leaving employment, Elizabeth has been awarded a Juris Doctor from RMIT, building upon an earlier undergraduate degree from Flinders University.
As a new committee member, Elizabeth looks forward to working with other members to further the valuable work of Mainstreet’s SA.
Nina Phillips
Committee Member
Nina is a Senior Landscape Architect at Jensen PLUS, with extensive professional experience working across both private and local government sectors.
She has been involved in numerous mainstreet projects, with a strong focus on greening initiatives, enhancing public experience, and supporting economic vitality by attracting people back to town centres. Nina is particularly interested in the role mainstreets play for communities and visitors, and how economic development and governance influence their design and long-term success.
Nina’s passion for landscape architecture is grounded in the belief that local culture, history, and the physical environment are fundamental to creating unique, site-specific outcomes, meaning her creative and innovative design solutions remain resilient into the future.
Janelle Gaudet
Committee Member
Janelle has a professional background in construction, project management, and interior design. She has lived in Adelaide for over 30 years and previously spent time living in China, where she managed fitout design and construction of aluminium fast ferries. For 25 years, Janelle owned and operated a kitchen design and manufacturing business based in the Norwood and St Peters area. During this time, she was also involved in the ownership and operation of an art gallery and whisky bar located in Port Adelaide.
In 2022, Janelle experienced a brain aneurysm and has since made a strong recovery. She is now enjoying a more measured pace while remaining actively engaged in community and professional interests. Janelle owns a historic building on Lipson Street in Port Adelaide and is currently in the process of relocating back to the Port. Having held the property for over three decades, she is enthusiastic about the renewed activity and positive change occurring in the area and is keen to contribute to its future direction.
Previously, Janelle served on the economic development committee that played a key role in establishing the Mainstreet Communities program within the Norwood and St Peters Council. Now retired, Janelle has the capacity to contribute her experience and skills to committees that align with her long-standing interests, and she looks forward to supporting initiatives that strengthen local main street communities.
Sonia Gallarello
Committee Member
Sonia Gallarello is an experienced Associate Town Planner with over 25 years in the planning and development sector across federal, state, and local government, as well as private practice.
She brings strong expertise in statutory planning, development assessment and project management, with a particular passion and curiosity for creating vibrant, accessible, and liveable main streets.
Sonia is committed to heritage preservation and regional development, and is driven by a desire to help South Australian communities thrive through practical people‑focussed planning. She values collaborative partnerships and evidence‑based decision‑making to support resilient and successful main street precincts.
Committee Member
Adrian has over 20 years’ experience in local government where he has led award winning design teams delivering public realm transformations and green infrastructure in parks and streets.
Adrian is a Fellow of AILA and a past president of the Victorian State Chapter of AILA from 2017-2019. He was the inaugural Chair of Greening the West in Melbourne, which was an award-winning partnership of local governments, Greater Western Water and other stakeholders who advocated for funding to increase greening across Melbourne’s western suburbs. This partnership attracted over $40M in green/blue projects and was recognised with 6 industry awards. .
Adrian is currently the Manager Design & Technical Services at the City of Adelaide.
Jesse Papargiris
Honorary Treasurer
Jesse is Director at Accru Harris Orchard. Born and raised in Stirling, Jesse moved to Port Lincoln and Mildura before returning to Adelaide to study at Uni SA University where he gained his Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Business Commercial Law. After completing university Jesse decided to stay and pursue his career in Adelaide as he and his wife enjoyed the lifestyle and opportunities it offered. With over 12 years experience in the accounting profession, Jesse enjoys using his specialist skills and knowledge to assist small to large businesses in their day to day management and providing a dynamic external force for growth and change. Jesse is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants.
Mainstreet COordinator
Alex Hammett (GAICD) is CEO of Lemon and Lime Digital, and comes to Mainstreet SA with significant experience with Mainstreets and Town Improvement Committees, having previously been the Marketing Coordinator for the Unley Road Association and having spent 10 years at KESAB environmental solutions as the Sustainable Communities - Tidy Towns Manager. Alex brings strong experience in marketing, communications and events, gained through working with not-for-profits, associations and small to medium businesses around the globe, along with strong business management and governance skills. Alex is a former Independent Member of the City of Unley Business & Economic Development Committee and a Board Member of the Fleurieu Regional Waste Authority, Shooting Australia and Sport SA.
