Breakfast with Steven Burgess
Mainstreet SA is excited to be bringing the legendary Steven Burgess back to Adelaide!
Stick, Stop, Stay, Spend...and Smile
Let's have some new adventures in competitive main streets
We often lament what we perceive we don't have in our mainstreets. We talk like our centres made themselves, and that influencing them is beyond our control.... And of course they are not. Our activity centres and mainstreets are exactly how we made them. If you wish your main street behaved differently, it doesn't just have to be a daydream beyond your reach. We are allowed to act to induce change. If you know there is something wrong, but you can't put your finger on it - ask someone. You can bet that you are not alone in your experience. The things you have to change might surprise you and might require some counterintuitive actions. Don't be frightened of moving some cars to give people some room to spend time (and money). There are so many successful mainstreets around the world that have acted, made changes and become more competitive. You aren't alone - so let's get out heads together and make some irresistible places.
ABOUT STEVEN
Steven Burgess has spent his 30+ year career helping Cities, Towns and Villages all around the world reform their bad behaviour so their citizens can prosper. Diverse housing, more sustainable movement and quality urban land uses make for happy citizens, although it is rarely pursued and even less frequently delivered.
Steven is a change agent for quality urban life and guides governments and communities to understand land use, economic and movement policy reform to foster essential change. His superpower is encouraging communities and governments to choose a path towards positive change and more happy and healthy communities.
Steven will be joining us for Breakfast at the Adelaide Pavilion on November 11 and talking about activating mainstreets streets and activity centres.
