On Friday 8th April Mainstreet SA will be hosting a workshop giving you the opportunity to talk on site with placemaking professionals as we visit mainstreets sites in the Fleurieu Peninsula.

Are laneways just a buzz word or can they truly be the answer to increased foot traffic in a mainstreet? Are the linkages to your mainstreet just as important as the mainstreet itself? Join Alexandrina Council as we take an in-depth hands-on look at two projects in different states of completion. Get on the bus as we explore the Goolwa Mainstreet and Wharf Precinct and the town of Strathalbyn.

Another piece of the puzzle in the Cadell Street Streetscape Improvement Plan developed in 2010 is  nearing completion. The strategy to link the Goolwa Wharf Precinct with Cadell Street has certainly had its challenges. This walking tour will address the process gone through to develop the plans/concepts, the challenges faced and the feedback upon completion.

In Strathalbyn we will address a tale of two mainstreets and the need to provide good linkages. On the tour we will look at how the council are trying to consolidate the retail offer while meeting demand and retaining mainstreet character. Hear about the challenges and the method of approaching them to ensure a strong vibrant town centre going into the future.

The workshop will be conducted by Conference keynote speaker Gordon Reid, Carlogie Ltd a pioneer of the town centre management movement in the UK and facilitated by Mainstreet SA Committee member David West.

This is your opportunity to explore the issues directly with mainstreet experts.
