MAINSTREET SA CONFERENCE 2021
Monday 7th and Tuesday 8th June 2021
Clare Town Hall
Mainstreet SA is delighted that our next Mainstreet SA Conference will be taking place in the beautiful Clare Valley, with the support of Clare and Gilbert Valleys Council and Legatus Group.
With the past 12 months shaping up so far to be one of the most challenging for mainstreets in living memory, the conference will be an opportunity for mainstreet practitioners to come together to discuss COVID-19 mainstreet recovery. As the economic, social and cultural heart of each community, mainstreets will play a vital role in re-building post-pandemic community cohesion and prosperity.
-
Mainstreets are drivers of the economy and vital to local and national economic stability;
-
Mainstreets are hubs of social and cultural activity with a concentration of unique businesses, public spaces and cultural institutions that support civic life;
-
Mainstreets support community health, safety and the environment with localised shops, services and amenities supporting healthy lifestyle choices such as walking and cycling;
-
Mainstreets make communities more resilient by supporting a strong sense of community.
From a common understanding of why mainstreets matter, the conference will explore the responses, business and marketing adjustments and innovations made during the pandemic to consider future directions for mainstreet resilience and prosperity. The conference will be a timely event to re-gather, re-imagine and re-energise.

Clare gives its name to the Clare Valley wine and tourist region, and as one of the larger towns in the region, Clare is an administrative and service centre for the surrounding area. It has two supermarkets, many other specialty stores, two public and two private schools, three hotels, two motels, a caravan park, race course and showground.
Clare has become recognised for its 'experiences', including the Riesling Trail walking and cycling route from Clare to Auburn on the former railway alignment, so named as it weaves past vineyards and wineries.
The Mainstreet SA Conference will take place in the Clare Town Hall which is located in the centre of the mainstreet. In 2020 Clare is completing Stage 2 of its mainstreet renewal project. Work to be completed includes additional tree grates along the southern end of the main street, more feature bins, additional seating and bike racks as well as a number of artistic elements including large murals and sculptures. The Mainstreet SA conference will be an opportunity to see and learn about the project and its impact on business and the community.
