Entries into the 2019 Mainstreet SA Awards will be judged by the following practitioners who all share a strong interest in the development of thriving mainstreets. We thank them for sharing their time, skill and experience with us.
As the Senior Policy Adviser (Economic Development) with the LGA, Sean assists the 68 member councils in creating an environment for businesses to grow, using the policy leavers of Tourism, Investment Attraction, Population, Mineral & Energy Resources, Red Tape Reduction, Planning, Innovation & Entrepreneurship, Local Infrastructure, Digital Economy (Smart Cities), Small Business and a Skilled Workforce. His career includes working for the media, two major peak body sporting organisations, the City of Whyalla and the Port Augusta City Council, three state government departments and he has also been a political adviser. Sean’s most recent experiences have been in policy advice, economic development, vocational training and workforce solutions, government relations, stakeholder engagement and business development.
Sue has 30 years professional experience in the event and conference industry, mainstreet management and placemaking and loves working with Precinct, Traders Groups and Mainstreet businesses assisting with them to be vibrant and sustainable. Sue has a strong background in Local Government, having worked at the City of Whyalla, Holdfast Bay, Port Adelaide Enfield, Renewal SA and currently City of Adelaide as the Place and Districts Consultant.
As the Director of Place and Marketing at Renewal SA, Rachel leads the delivery of strategic place development and marketing across South Australia’s major urban renewal projects, including the Lot Fourteen innovation neighbourhood (former Royal Adelaide Hospital), Tonsley Innovation District, the Port Adelaide renewal project and Renewal SA’s portfolio of residential and mixed-use projects. Previous project involvement includes Adelaide Riverbank and Festival Plaza and the Market to Riverbank laneways redevelopment. Rachel also has a keen interest in shaping thriving communities with integrated place management that attracts people and unlocks major investment.
David has been working with mainstreets in Australia and overseas for almost 20 years. He is an inaugural Member of MainstreetSA and is currently a Committee Member of Mainstreet Australia. He is a Director of Premier Retail Marketing a consultancy that offers specialist retail advice to Councils, Cities, Town Centres, Shopping Centres and retailers in the areas of marketing, business mix development and mainstreet management. He is a published author of a book 'Mainstreet Management - Successful Retail Strategies'.
Josh joined Business SA in August 2017, and leads the broad and diverse portfolio of Marketing, Communications, Events and Membership. Proudly local, Josh has worked in Melbourne, Sydney and London in a variety of Marketing and Commercial roles, but he has always returned home to the town he loves in the state he is immensely proud of.
Josh has experience in marketing in both the commercial and not for profit sectors, covering a number of well-known household brands, across a diverse range of industries including oil, homewares, wine, advertising and health.
With a passion for all things South Australia, Josh welcomes the opportunity to work with local businesses to help be a part of a better, stronger, sustainable and vibrant future for the state.
