Mainstreet SA would like to thank everyone who attended the 2016 Mainstreet SA Conference – Mainstreets into the Future proudly presented by the Fleurieu Peninsula Councils on 7th and 8th April. This year’s conference was held on the Victor Harbor mainstreet in two of its historical buildings the Victa Cinema and Grosvenor Hotel.
The Conference was a great success and is a testament to the dedication of the volunteer Mainstreet SA committee that once again facilitated a relevant, educational and entertaining conference, featuring international and local speakers, on a wide range of topics of interest to the mainstreet community in South Australia. The day brought over 120 speakers and delegates from local, national and international settings and judging by the buzz on the floor and across the twitter feed there was a high level of engagement between speakers and participants.
Delegates were given the opportunity to hear from three world expert keynote speakers David Downey, International Downtown Association; Gordon Reid, Carlogie Ltd and Peter Kenyon, Bank of I.D.E.A.S. Each presenting engaging entertaining and thoughtful talks, giving an insight into their experiences. In a conference first two speakers were voted as the best speaker of the day with Steven Burgess, MR Cagney and Rick Carter, Innovation in the City taking out the award. Steven spoke about the ‘Lost Art of Street Design’ while Rick looked at ‘Innovating how we Innovate’.
The Committee would like to thank the host Councils – City of Victor Harbor, City of Onkaparinga, Alexandrina Council and District Council of Yankalilla for their support of the event. We would also like to thank Conference Associates IGA, Little Hampton Clay Bricks and Pavers, Jensen Planning + Design and Goodieson Brewery for their ongoing support.
